Japan Wins Big on Home Soil
Japan won six of the 12 titles: men's épée, men's foil, men's team foil, women's foil, women's team foil and women's sabre. The men's foil final was the best match of the week. Kazuki Iimura trailed Hong Kong's Ryan Choi 6–10, then won 15–13 in front of a loud home crowd. Choi had fought back from that gap to level the score at 12–12.
Iimura also won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Hong Kong two months earlier. His teammates beat Hong Kong in the team foil final to complete the foil double.
Hong Kong's Foil Stars Win Two Silvers
Hong Kong won six fencing medals: two silvers and four bronzes. Both silvers came in foil. Choi lost the individual final to Iimura. The team of Edgar Cheung, Ryan Choi, Harris Ho, and Leung Chin-yu beat South Korea 45–41 in the semifinal and then took silver behind Japan.
It was the same four-man team that won silver at the Worlds in July. The bronzes came from Fong Hoi Sun in the individual épée, the men's team épée, the men's team sabre, and the women's team foil. You can read how that world's final went in our 2026 World Fencing Championships results.
South Korea, Kazakhstan, and China Take Titles
South Korea won four golds. Song Se-ra beat Singapore's Kiria Tikanah 15–8 to win the women's épée. She is also a former world champion. Oh Sang-uk won the men's sabre, and Korea took both team sabre titles.
Kazakhstan's men's épée team kept its form from the World Cup. Ruslan Kurbanov, Kirill Prokhodov, Yerlik Sertay, and Vadim Sharlaimov won gold again, the same four who won the world title in Hong Kong. Prokhodov also took silver in the individual event. China won the women's team épée.
Singapore won three fencing medals: a silver and two bronzes. Tikanah took the silver in the individual épée and was part of the women's team épée side that won bronze. Maxine Wong added a bronze in the women's foil.
