Sachsenring, Sunday, June 19, 2022
Race Circuit
The first race was held on May 26, 1927, at a layout of 8.618 km of public roads. It was renamed "Sachsenring" in 1937. The East German motorcycle Grand Prix was held there from 1962 to1971.
In 1998, the German motorcycle
Grand Prix moved to the Sachsenring from Nürburgring. In recent years, the
track has been made faster and longer again, with the length now being 3.671 km. Since 2007, the Sachsenring is part of the regular schedule of
ADAC GT Masters. In 2011 the FIA GT1 World Championship held one of its
race weekends at the Sachsenring
Six-time MotoGP champion Mark Marquez has undergone his first post-surgery surgery in the United States.
Struggling with ongoing
mobility and pain issues in his upper right arm, Marquez stepped back from the
2022 season following Mugello to undergo a fourth operation on the bone he
initially broke in July 2020.
Jack Miller will retain his sixth place on the grid but has been handed a long-lap penalty for crashing under a yellow flag in FP4.
Speaking before the verdict, Miller explained: "I
started FP4 on the hard-hard tire option. I had a big vibration on the front
tire and I don’t know why. I saw the yellow flags and literally said to myself
'don’t crash…' and braked early and the next thing I know I was on the
ground.
I switched off the brain a little bit’ - Fabio Quartararo after pushing his M1 Yamaha to the limit in MotoGP qualifying at Sachsenring.
On a day where Ducati was expected to secure a pole and possibly a front-row lockout at Sachsenring, the reigning MotoGP champion had very different ideas
.
Can Aleix Espargaro deliver the
perfect response to his Barcelona mishap with a German MotoGP victory on
Sunday?
The Aprilia rider is confident he has the raw speed
to match Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo, first and second on the grid,
but the key will be who deals best with the inevitable tire drop over 30 punishing laps.

Fabio Quartararo has taken back-to-back MotoGP wins with a dominant victory in the 2022 German MotoGP at Sachsenring, ahead of Johann Zarco and Jack Miller.
Meanwhile, a costly early mistake for pole starter Francesco Bagnaia may well have extinguished the Italian's already slim title hopes.
Bagnaia was beaten into turn 1 by Quartararo, then attacked the Frenchman the next time around. However the Frenchman - eager to keep his M1 in fresh air - cut straight back under the Ducati.
Enea Bastianini’s crew chief Alberto Giribuola was absent this weekend due to Covid, with Gresini technical coordinator Sergio Verbena standing in as his replacement. Starting just 17th on the grid, and the only rider to fit the medium instead of the hard front tire, the triple 2022 race winner finished tenth.
Suzuki's Joan Mir fell moments after Bagnaia, ending his hopes of a recovery from twelfth.
Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Rins returned this weekend after their turn one accident in Barcelona. Rins, who suffered a wrist fracture, was forced to withdraw from the event after FP3, while Nakagami continued despite hitting his injured shoulder on Saturday.
Quartararo is the first new winner of the German MotoGP since 2013, with Marc Marquez - unbeaten at the Sachsenring since the 125cc class in 2011
