The 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix takes place from 9 to 11 October at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in Lombok. It is round 17 of 22 in the MotoGP World Championship, organised by the FIM. The weekend opens a busy run of races in Asia and Oceania, and it arrives with the title fight at its tightest point of the year.
Jorge Martín leads the standings on 333 points. Reigning champion Marc Márquez sits second on 331 after winning both the sprint and the race at Motegi. Marco Bezzecchi is third on 284. Most readers want one answer: who is in the best position, when does the racing start, and what could change the order? This guide covers all three.
The Moto2 and Moto3 classes race at Mandalika too, and both have a live title fight. The Moto3 championship could be decided in Indonesia. You will find session times, standings, and past winners for both classes in the Moto2 and Moto3 sections below.

The Title Fight Before Round 17
Sixteen rounds have produced eight different winners. That spread explains why the championship still feels open, even with two riders clear at the top.
Martín took the lead back at the Austrian Grand Prix weekend and carried it to Japan. At Motegi, he started from the pole and led early. Márquez stayed close, set a new fastest lap on lap five, and passed Martín at turn nine on lap 11. He then pulled clear and won. The gap in the standings fell from 12 points to two.
Márquez described the fight as a three-way contest between himself and the two Aprilia riders. He named Bezzecchi as a genuine contender. That is a fair reading of the numbers. Bezzecchi is 49 points behind, which is large but not out of reach, with 222 points still available across the remaining sprint and race weekends.
Here is the maximum a rider can score in one weekend: 25 points for a race win and 12 for a sprint win, which adds up to 37. Six weekends remain, counting Mandalika. The arithmetic keeps several riders involved. It also means one crash can undo a lot of work.
2026 MotoGP Season So Far

| 14 | San Marino and Rimini Riviera | Marco Bezzecchi | Marc Márquez | Ducati |
| 15 | Austria | Jorge Martín | Pedro Acosta | KTM |
| 16 | Japan | Jorge Martín | Marc Márquez | Ducati |
Three patterns stand out.
Márquez owns the most wins. He has six Grand Prix victories in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, Aragon, San Marino, and Japan. Bezzecchi has four, all in the first seven rounds. Six other riders have one each: Álex Márquez, Martín, Di Giannantonio, Ogura, Fernández, and Acosta. Our Aragon Grand Prix preview covers the round where his current run of wins began.
Manufacturers are close. Ducati has won eight races and Aprilia seven. KTM has one, from Acosta in Austria. You can read how that round unfolded in our Austrian MotoGP results report and see how it looked beforehand in the Austrian Grand Prix preview.
Martín owns the pole position count. He started from the front four times in the Netherlands, Great Britain, Austria, and Japan. Bezzecchi also has four poles. Márquez has three. Pole has not guaranteed victory, as Japan showed.

Key Riders to Watch at Mandalika
Jorge Martín, Aprilia Racing
Martín leads the standings with one win this season, at the French Grand Prix. He has been consistent at the front. At Motegi, he finished second after leading the early laps. He also decided against arm pump surgery after the Austrian weekend. Mandalika holds good memories: he won the 2024 race from the pole.
Marc Márquez, Ducati Lenovo Team
The defending champion has won six races and arrives with momentum from a sprint and race double in Japan. His record at this track is poor. He told reporters he has never finished a Grand Prix at Mandalika. In 2024, he retired with a technical issue. In 2025, he collided with Bezzecchi on lap one and missed the rest of that season with shoulder injuries. He finished sixth in last year's sprint. For context on his earlier career, see our look back at his first premier-class title weekend at Valencia in 2013 and his 2013 win at Laguna Seca.
Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing
Bezzecchi won the first three rounds and the Italian Grand Prix. He broke his collarbone in a qualifying crash at the German Grand Prix, then returned and finished third at Motegi. He won the 2025 Indonesian sprint and took pole for last year's race. Mandalika has suited him before.
Pedro Acosta, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing
Acosta won the Austrian Grand Prix and sits fourth. He finished second at Mandalika in both 2024 and 2025. That makes him one of the most reliable finishers at this circuit. KTM struggled at Motegi, where Acosta lost places early.
Ai Ogura and Raúl Fernández, Trackhouse MotoGP Team
Both ride the Aprilia RS-GP26. Ogura won the Dutch TT, and Fernández won in Great Britain. They finished sixth and fifth in Japan and are separated by 21 points in the standings. If the Aprilia suits Mandalika, both are in a position to take points from the leaders.
Fabio Di Giannantonio, Pertamina VR46 Racing Team
He won the Catalan Grand Prix and took two early poles. He has not finished in the top five in recent rounds, according to the series' own form review before Motegi. A strong weekend would put him back in the picture.
Fermín Aldeguer, BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP
Aldeguer won this event in 2025 and became the second-youngest winner in MotoGP history. He is tenth in the standings on 122 points and rides a GP25 Ducati this year. He has already shown he can win here.
Rookies
Diogo Moreira of Brazil and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu of Türkiye are both first-year MotoGP riders. Moreira stands 14th on 74 points and took his first MotoGP podium in the Japanese sprint. Razgatlıoğlu has 18 points.
Moto2 and Moto3 at the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix
The Indonesian Grand Prix also includes the Moto2 and Moto3 classes. Neither class holds a sprint. Each runs one race on Sunday morning, before the MotoGP Grand Prix. Both championships are active, and the Moto3 title could be decided at Mandalika.

In Sri Lanka, the Moto3 race starts at 09:30 on Sunday morning, and the Moto2 race starts at 10:45. The MotoGP Grand Prix follows at 12:30. Race distances for 2026: Information is not currently available. In 2024, the Moto2 race ran 22 laps, and the Moto3 race ran 20 laps.
Moto3: Quiles Can Clinch the Title
Maximo Quiles of the CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team leads the Moto3 standings on 326 points. David Almansa is second on 199, and Alvaro Carpe is third. Quiles leads by 127 points after round 16.
| Pos. | Rider | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maximo Quiles | CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team (KTM) | 326 |
| 2 | David Almansa | Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP (KTM) | 199 |
| 3 | Alvaro Carpe | Red Bull KTM Ajo (KTM) | Information is not currently available. |
| 4 | Brian Uriarte (rookie) | Red Bull KTM Ajo (KTM) | 187 |
Five rounds will remain after Mandalika, and a Moto3 race win is worth 25 points, so 125 points stay available. Crash.net reports that Quiles becomes champion in Indonesia if he holds an advantage of 125 points or more after the race. He can lose very little ground to Almansa and still clinch.
Japan showed how close the racing is. Almansa started from pole and won by 0.046 seconds, his third victory of the season. Quiles chased him to the line and later said he hesitated on the last lap because the title was on his mind. Carpe finished third. Uriarte took fourth after serving a double long lap penalty. KTM riders filled the top ten at Motegi, and the top Honda finisher was Indonesia's Veda Pratama in 11th.
Last year the Moto3 title was also decided at this event. José Antonio Rueda won the 2025 Indonesian race and clinched the championship. Rueda now races in Moto2 as a rookie.
Moto2: A Ten-Point Fight
The Moto2 title fight is much closer. Manuel González leads on 245.5 points. Izan Guevara is second on 235, just 10.5 behind. Ivan Ortolá is third on 181.5, Alonso López is fourth on 166, and Daniel Holgado is fifth on 154. Points are shown as reported in the Moto2 standings.
| Pos. | Rider | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Manuel González | Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP (Kalex) | 245.5 |
| 2 | Izan Guevara | Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha Moto2 (Boscoscuro) | 235 |
| 3 | Ivan Ortolá | QJMOTOR JP Financial MSI (Kalex) | 181.5 |
| 4 | Alonso López | Italjet Gresini Moto2 (Kalex) | 166 |
| 5 | Daniel Holgado | CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team (Kalex) | 154 |
The Japanese round changed the picture. González qualified on pole, but he stalled on the grid during a practice start on the sighting lap and was moved to the pit lane. He finished 22nd and scored no points. Guevara won his third race of the season and his second in a row, after his Austrian victory. He has taken 47 points from González over the last six rounds.
Tony Arbolino finished second at Motegi, his first podium of the season. Filip Salač was third, his fifth podium of the year and his second in a row. Ortolá was fourth. Rueda is the top Moto2 rookie on 37 points, ahead of Luca Lunetta on 23.
Mandalika has produced Moto2 winners from the front of the grid before. Diogo Moreira won the 2025 Moto2 race from pole, with Guevara second. Moreira now rides in MotoGP. Indonesian rider Mario Aji competes in Moto2 for Idemitsu Honda Team Asia and retired in Japan.
Moto2 and Moto3 Podiums at Mandalika, 2024 and 2025
| Year | Class | Winner | Second | Third |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Moto2 | Arón Canet (Kalex) | Ai Ogura (Boscoscuro) | Alonso López (Boscoscuro) |
| 2024 | Moto3 | David Alonso (CFMoto) | Adrián Fernández (Honda) | David Muñoz (KTM) |
| 2025 | Moto2 | Diogo Moreira (Kalex) | Izan Guevara (Boscoscuro) | Arón Canet (Kalex) |
| 2025 | Moto3 | José Antonio Rueda (KTM) | Luca Lunetta (Honda) | Guido Pini (KTM) |
The 2025 pole position times were 1:32.341 for Moreira in Moto2 and 1:37.022 for Adrián Fernández in Moto3.
Moto3 is also heading for change. Reports in June said Yamaha will supply a one-make Moto3 class from 2028.
Mandalika Circuit and Tyre Questions
Mandalika is a 4.301 km street circuit. Its surface and heat put heavy demands on the rear tyre. Reports before this weekend describe it as one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar for tyre wear.
The tyre story matters because of what happened at Motegi. Organisers removed the soft rear tyre from the allocation there over overheating concerns. Every rider chose the hard rear for the race. Aprilia riders had also reported blistering in the sprint. Márquez said he needed time behind Martín to understand the hard tyre before he could attack.
At last year's Indonesian round, the rear tyre was a special heat-resistant option. Ducati riders struggled with it apart from Aldeguer, and Márquez was only sixth in the sprint. Reporters expect Aprilia to hold an advantage this weekend. That expectation is a forecast, not a confirmed result. The tyre allocation for Mandalika in 2026: Information is not currently available.
Weather is another variable. Márquez said before the weekend that nobody knows whether it will rain. The 2022 race here was affected by rain, so wet conditions are possible.
The pole position time in 2025 was 1:28.832 by Bezzecchi. Aldeguer set the fastest race lap in 2025 at 1:30.499.
Indonesian Grand Prix History and Previous Winners
The Indonesian Grand Prix returned to the world championship in 2022 after an absence of 25 years. The venue was the new Mandalika circuit, and the race was round two of that season. Miguel Oliveira won the MotoGP race for KTM in 2022. The event also produced the first Grand Prix victory for a Thai rider, when Somkiat Chantra won the Moto2 race.
Ducati has won the last three editions. The table shows the podiums since 2023.
| Year | Winner | Second | Third |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) | Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) | Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) |
| 2024 | Jorge Martín (Ducati) | Pedro Acosta (KTM) | Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) |
| 2025 | Fermín Aldeguer (Ducati) | Pedro Acosta (KTM) | Álex Márquez (Ducati) |
Pole position has not been a reliable guide. Martín won from pole in 2024. In 2025 Bezzecchi started from pole and retired after the lap-one collision, while Aldeguer won from second on the grid. In 2023, Ducati secured its fourth consecutive constructors' title at this event.
Acosta's two second places and Aldeguer's win show that riders outside the title fight can still decide results here. KTM has won once and finished second twice in four editions.
Fans of earlier eras can compare this event with the 2013 season. Our 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix report from Sepang looks at another Southeast Asian round from that year.
How the MotoGP Weekend Works
A modern MotoGP weekend includes a sprint and a full Grand Prix. The format has been in use since 2023.
Friday. Riders have a first practice session in the morning. In the afternoon, a timed practice session sets the order for the top ten, who qualify directly for Qualifying 2.
Saturday. Second practice runs in the morning. Qualifying 1 follows, and the top two riders advance to Qualifying 2. The remaining places on the grid are set from the Qualifying 1 result. The sprint takes place in the afternoon at roughly half the distance of the Grand Prix.
Sunday. A short warm-up precedes the Grand Prix, which carries the full points. Moto3 and Moto2 each run a single race earlier in the morning, with no sprint.
Points. The Grand Prix awards 25 points to the winner, then 20, 16, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 down to 15th place. The sprint awards 12 points to the winner, then 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 down to ninth place. A rider can score up to 37 points in a weekend.
The sprint matters in a close title fight. Márquez won both the sprint and the race at Motegi, and those 37 points are what cut the gap to two. A sprint crash costs a rider the Saturday points and often affects the Sunday result as well.
The Final 1000cc Season
The 2026 season is the last for the current premier-class rules. MotoGP uses 1000cc engines and Michelin series-specified tyres this year. From 2027, the class moves to 850cc engines and tyres supplied by Pirelli, along with other technical changes.
That timing gives this season extra weight in the record books. Riders and teams are completing a regulation cycle, and results this year will stand as the last under the 1000cc rules. Manufacturers are also balancing current development against preparation for 2027.
Tyre behaviour has already become a topic. Motegi showed how heat can limit tyre choices, and Mandalika places similar demands on the rear. Teams with strong tyre management could gain an edge over the next three rounds, which all take place in hot, demanding conditions.
Remaining 2026 Calendar
| Round | Grand Prix | Venue | Dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 | Indonesian Grand Prix | Mandalika | 9-11 October |
| 18 | Australian Grand Prix | Phillip Island | 23-25 October |
| 19 | Malaysian Grand Prix | Sepang | 30 October to 1 November |
| 20 | Qatar Grand Prix | Lusail | 6-8 November |
| 21 | Portuguese Grand Prix | Portimão | 20-22 November |
| 22 | Valencia Grand Prix | Ricardo Tormo | 27-29 November |
The next race after Mandalika is two weeks away at Phillip Island. The season ends at Valencia on 29 November. You can compare this schedule with an earlier season in our 2014 MotoGP calendar article.
What to Watch on Sunday
Three questions will shape the Indonesian Grand Prix.
Can Márquez finish a race at Mandalika? He leads the sprint and race records this season but has never completed a Grand Prix here. The first lap is the most dangerous part of the weekend for him.
Does Aprilia gain from the tyre? Martín, Bezzecchi, Ogura and Fernández all ride the same bike. If the rear tyre favours them, the title gap could grow. That is a possibility and not a certainty. Ducati riders showed last year that one rider can still win on a difficult tyre.
Who takes points from the leaders? Acosta has a strong record here. Aldeguer has won here. Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia and Álex Márquez are all capable of a podium, though Bagnaia and Álex Márquez are well back in the standings.
Can Quiles clinch the Moto3 title? He needs to keep his lead at 125 points or more after Sunday's race. The Moto3 race starts at 09:30 in Sri Lanka, so the first title result of the weekend could arrive before the MotoGP race begins.
Can Guevara pass González in Moto2? Ten and a half points separate them. Guevara has won two races in a row, and he can take the lead with a better result than González at Mandalika.
Results will be confirmed after the race. Until then, treat all forecasts as opinion. Check the official timing sheets for the final classification, and watch for updates to this article after the weekend.
