Introduction

The 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix produced one of the most eventful weekends of the MotoGP season. Round 17 of 22 ran from 9 to 11 October at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit on the island of Lombok. Marc Márquez won Saturday's sprint and took the title lead. A day later, Aprilia filled the first four places in the Grand Prix.

Marco Bezzecchi won the race. Raúl Fernández finished second, Jorge Martín third and Ai Ogura fourth. Martín left Lombok as championship leader by two points. Márquez finished sixth. Crash.net had noted before the race that he had never finished a Sunday race at Mandalika, so this was his first.

The support classes also made news. Quiles won the Moto3 title with five rounds still to run. Guevara won a red-flagged Moto2 race for his third victory in a row. This report covers all three classes, the full results, the new standings and what comes next. You can also read our preview of the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix to see what was at stake before the weekend.

Friday and Saturday: How the Weekend Built Up

The pace was fast from the first session. Fernández set a new all-time lap record at Mandalika on Friday and led an Aprilia 1-2-3 in practice, according to Cycle News. In Moto2, Guevara set a new lap record in a session that had two red flags. In Moto3, Almansa narrowly beat Quiles to top Friday practice. Fabio Quartararo also crashed on Friday.

Saturday started with trouble. Final practice was red-flagged after ten minutes when rookie Toprak Razgatlıoğlu had a big highside. Crash.net reports he dislocated his right shoulder. The shoulder was put back in place, and he returned to qualify 19th. Bezzecchi topped the session with a 1m 29.560s lap.

Qualifying 1 was full of crashes. Johann Zarco fell twice, and Jack Miller, Ogura, Enea Bastianini and Diogo Moreira also went down. Ogura and Fermín Aldeguer still advanced to Qualifying 2. Ogura had only one bike left after his fall, and Aldeguer crashed in Qualifying 2.

Fernández took his first MotoGP pole with 1m 28.852s. Bezzecchi was 0.109s behind and Di Giannantonio 0.196s behind. Márquez and Martín shared row two. Crash.net reports that Márquez deliberately followed Martín on the final run and stayed on his rear wheel when Martín tried to back off. Aleix Espargaró also made his first start of the season as a Honda HRC stand-in for Joan Mir.

MotoGP Sprint Report and Results

Riders braking into the first corner of the MotoGP sprint at Mandalika

The sprint was decided in the first corner and again in the last five laps.

Fernández started from pole, and Bezzecchi from second. Both went down at Turn 1. Crash.net reports that Márquez and Di Giannantonio went down the inside and clipped Fernández's front wheel as he sat up. Bezzecchi was caught in the tangle. Both Aprilia riders failed to finish.

That gave Martín the lead. At half distance he led Márquez by 1.672s. With five laps to go, Martín sat up and let Márquez past. The obvious theory was a tyre pressure problem, because he tucked in behind Márquez. Martín looked ready to fight back, then made a mistake on the penultimate lap and fell to fourth.

Márquez won by 0.509s from Ogura. Di Giannantonio took third. All riders used the soft tyre front and rear, except Zarco, who chose the medium rear. The result flipped the title fight. Martín's two-point lead became a four-point deficit.

MotoGP Grand Prix Report and Results

Three MotoGP riders celebrating on a podium with spraying champagne

Sunday began badly for Aprilia. In warm-up, Bezzecchi was fastest and Fernández was 0.043s behind. Fernández was visibly struggling with his right hand and was seen gesturing angrily at Bezzecchi after the session. Martín finished warm-up in the gravel trap. Espargaró withdrew from the race because of physical discomfort, in his first MotoGP weekend since serious back injuries.

All riders chose the soft front tyre and the medium rear for the race. Fernández started from pole, but he lost out on the run to Turn 1 again. He cut back under Bezzecchi and led most of the race. Fernández later said he had two broken fingers from the sprint tangle. Martín was sixth after lap one and worked his way forward.

Bezzecchi stayed close and made his winning pass in the closing stages. On lap 25 of 27, he led by 2.536s. He crossed the line 4.260s clear for his first win since Mugello. Fernández took second and Martín completed the podium. Martín was already clear of the rest, and the podium gave him back the title lead.

Behind them, Márquez and Pedro Acosta fought over fourth. Both dealt with tyre pressure concerns and let each other pass. Acosta confirmed pressure problems, but Márquez said his were fine. Ogura made a late charge and passed both of them. That completed Aprilia's top-four sweep, with Acosta fifth and Márquez sixth.

Four riders did not finish: Razgatlıoğlu, Francesco Bagnaia, Jack Miller and Fermín Aldeguer. Maverick Viñales received a 16-second post-race penalty for low tyre pressure. It did not change the order.

Moto2 Report and Results

Guevara arrived with momentum. He took pole with a record 1m 31.963s, the first 1m 31s lap in the class at Mandalika. González had his worst Qualifying 2 result and started 10th. David Alonso was third on the grid and the top Kalex rider.

Moto2 riders on the grid with mechanics before the red-flag restart

The first start ended in a pile-up. Contact between the two Aspar bikes involved Alonso and Daniel Holgado. Joe Roberts and Collin Veijer were also caught up. The red flag came out just as Alex Escrig moved into the lead. Holgado said after the race that he considered the incident his own fault because he missed his braking point.

The race restarted over 14 laps from the same grid. Alonso and Roberts could not rejoin, and neither started. Escrig led again from the Klint Forward bike, with Guevara pushing hard. With a lap and a half to go, Escrig's bike cut out. That left Guevara clear to win by 3.570s for his third straight victory.

González started from 10th and passed rider after rider. He finished second and limited the damage. Holgado held third despite pain from his fall. Senna Agius climbed from 13th on the grid to fourth. Home rider Mario Aji took the flag in 19th but dropped to 20th after a time penalty for an unserved long lap. José Antonio Rueda was the top rookie in 10th.

Moto3 Report and Results

Quiles needed a win with Almansa behind him to clinch the title. Almansa started from pole and led the early laps, but the field soon pushed past him. Adrián Fernández moved to the front, followed by home rider Veda Pratama. Almansa dropped as low as seventh.

Quiles started sixth. He took the lead by lap three and began to pull away. He ran on a track limits warning for much of the race. Almansa worked his way back to second and cut the gap to under two seconds, but he could not close it. Quiles won by 2.994s for his tenth victory of the season, according to MotoGP.com.

That result made him world champion with five rounds still to run. He finished the day on 351 points, 132 clear of Almansa. His team marked the moment with a shield-themed celebration inspired by the film Gladiator, with a number 1 added to the bike. MotoGP.com reports that only a short list of riders across all classes have won a title with five rounds to spare.

The fight for third was close. Matteo Bertelle and Brian Uriarte ran together for much of the race, and Bertelle set a new race lap record of 1m 37.189s. Uriarte made a last-lap pass to take the final podium place. Rico Salmela was fifth. Veda Pratama finished sixth as the top Honda rider.

Alvaro Carpe crashed on lap 11 after a move from Adrián Fernández. Race Direction investigated and took no further action. David Muñoz retired after a long lap penalty for taking a shortcut.

Key Riders and Teams

Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing

Bezzecchi scored 25 points and moved to 309. MotoGP.com counts it as his 11th MotoGP win and the 300th premier-class win for Italian riders. It was his fifth win of 2026, after Thailand, Brazil, the United States and Italy. He sits 46 points behind Martín.

Raúl Fernández, Trackhouse Aprilia

Fernández took his first MotoGP pole and led the Grand Prix for most of the distance. He did it with injured fingers. He scored 20 points and is seventh in the standings.

Jorge Martín, Aprilia Racing

Martín scored 22 points over the weekend. That was the same total as Márquez. He recovered from sixth on lap one to finish third and take back the lead. His sprint ended with a mistake on the penultimate lap. His Sunday showed the speed to recover.

Marc Márquez, Ducati Lenovo

Márquez won the sprint and scored 22 points across the weekend. His sixth place on Sunday was his first Sunday finish at Mandalika. He still has six Grand Prix wins this season, the most of any rider. For an earlier chapter of his career, read our look back at his 2013 win at Laguna Seca.

Ai Ogura and Pedro Acosta

Ogura scored 22 points, with second in the sprint and fourth in the race. Acosta was sixth in the sprint and fifth in the race. KTM remains on one win this year, which came from Acosta in Austria. You can read that round in our Austrian MotoGP results and see how it looked beforehand in the Austrian Grand Prix preview.

The Manufacturers

Aprilia and Ducati each have eight Grand Prix wins in 2026. KTM has one. Honda's best finisher was Luca Marini in 12th. Yamaha's best was Quartararo in ninth.

Key Storylines

Aprilia's historic day. Aprilia held the first four places in the Grand Prix, an unprecedented result according to Cycle News. The weekend was not smooth, though. The Turn 1 tangle in the sprint cost two riders points. Crash.net reported a heated exchange between Fernández and Bezzecchi after warm-up.

A title fight with no clear leader. Martín and Márquez each scored 22 points. They arrive at Phillip Island separated by two points. Bezzecchi is 46 behind, which is still within reach with 185 points left. A single crash can change the order.

Quiles ends the Moto3 race early. He clinched the title with five rounds left after a dominant ride. His win from sixth on the grid answered the question of whether Almansa could stay in the fight.

Guevara closes in. He has now taken 25 points from González in two weekends. The gap was 10.5 before Mandalika. It is 5.5 now. One more strong round could put him on top.
